Hull Identification Number/
(HIN)

What’s a HIN/HULL number and where do I find it?

The Hull Identification Number (HIN) serves as the unique identifier for a vessel, similar to the VIN or vehicle serial number of a car.

The HIN is typically affixed or stamped into the back of the vessel’s hull, commonly referred to as the transom, usually in the uppermost right corner or beneath the swim platform. Additionally, the HIN may be documented on the state title, state registration, USCG Documentation, and insurance paperwork. For boats manufactured in 1984 or later, Federal regulations dictate that the HIN must adhere to the format.
